... that Walter Reed Middle School has a recycling program?  We have a recycling bin provided by the Los Angeles Conservation Corps (LACC) on campus. The large green bin is located outside of Room 153, not too far from the cafeteria.  There are also some satellite black or blue and white recycling bins around campus.  Have you seen them?  If not, keep an eye out because they are around!

What are we recycling? We are recycling plastic and aluminum bottles and cans--if it holds something to drink, you can probably recycle it!

Why are we recycling? Recycling is an environmentally responsible thing to do!  By recycling, we reduce our need for landfill space, saves energy (it takes less energy to make something from recycled materials that from raw materials), and it saves natural resources among other factors.  Another GREAT reason to recycle at Reed is that we get paid for it!  After the LACC picks up our recycling, they weigh it and pay us based on the amount we collect.  The more we collect the more money we get!  All of that money goes directly to the school Wolf Store to buy more prizes for the kids to redeem with their Wolf Tickets!

How can we recycle?  Look for the bins around campus and in the auditorium at concerts!  Put your used cans and bottles into the appropriate bins—it is as easy as that!  If you don’t have curbside recycling at home, you can even bring your home recycling into school.  Put it in the main bin or look for the blue and white recycling bin near the main office and drop off your recycling in there.  What a great way to help Reed and the environment at the same time!  Who knows, you might even earn some Wolf Tickets by being “caught in the act” of doing something good—RECYCLING!

So, the next time you drink bottled water, or have a soda, save your bottle and give it to Reed!  It doesn’t take more than an extra second, won’t cost you any extra money but will make a big difference for the students and the environment.  Is there any easier way to do something good?
